The Post-Pill Awakening (Part 1): Reclaiming My Body from Chronic Fatigue, Anxiety and Trauma

For years, I believed I was doing everything "right."

I practised breathwork. I meditated. I ate a healthy diet. I spent hours exploring somatic healing, nervous system regulation and yoga.

Yet every single morning I woke up feeling as though my body had been plugged into an electric socket.

My chest was tight. My legs tingled. My body ached. My nervous system felt permanently switched on. And underneath it all was a feeling I couldn't quite explain...

I never truly felt like I had landed on this earth, and also over working and providing for myself over the years as a woman had depleted my yin (feminine receptive inner energies, like many other woman today, forced to hold down a full time job, house, car an look after the kids if a single mother)

If you've ever experienced something similar, I want you to know something before we go any further:

You are not imagining it. You are not weak. You are not failing at healing.

Sometimes the answers simply haven't been connected yet.

When Every Specialist Looks at One Piece

One of the biggest frustrations on my journey was that every symptom was treated separately.

The anxiety belonged to mental health. The chest pain belonged to cardiology. The fatigue belonged to blood tests. The muscle tension belonged to physiotherapy.

Nobody seemed to ask the obvious question:

"What if all of these symptoms are connected?" - because they are!

The more I began studying the nervous system, hormones, trauma physiology and functional health, the more I realised our bodies never separate themselves into departments.

Everything speaks to everything else.

Our hormones influence our nervous system. Our nutrient stores affect our stress response. Our emotions affect our muscles. Our breathing changes our brain chemistry. Our past experiences become stored in our body.

The human body works as one extraordinary interconnected system.

The Morning That Finally Made Sense

One discovery completely changed how I viewed my body.

For years I noticed something strange.

Instead of feeling better after my period...

I actually felt dramatically worse.

Morning panic. Chest tightness. Physical pain. Exhaustion.

It didn't make sense until I started understanding two important pieces:

• Iron stores (particularly ferritin)

• Oestrogen levels

After menstruation, many women experience their lowest iron stores.

If ferritin is already running low, oxygen delivery throughout the body becomes compromised.

The result?

Fatigue. Muscle aches. Poor recovery. Increased anxiety. Heart palpitations. Breathlessness.

At the same time, hormone levels are beginning another shift.

For some women—particularly during perimenopause or after years of hormonal contraception—this combination can create the perfect storm for nervous system dysregulation.

Suddenly my body wasn't "broken."

It was communicating.

The Body That Wouldn't Stay Calm

Perhaps the most frustrating part of healing was this...

  • Yoga worked...until it didn't.

  • Breathwork worked...until five minutes later.

  • Meditation worked...until I stood up.

It felt like someone stretched a rubber band...

...only for it to snap straight back.

Eventually I realised I wasn't failing at nervous system work.

My nervous system simply didn't trust safety for very long (years of NOT listening to myself)

Years of hypervigilance don't disappear after one meditation.

They require repetition.

Gentleness.

Consistency.

Instead of trying to force myself into one-hour healing sessions, I began experimenting with what I now call "micro-doses" of regulation.

Thirty seconds.

One minute.

A gentle breath.

Relaxing my jaw.

Softening my shoulders.

Putting my hand over my heart.

Tiny moments repeated throughout the day.

Slowly my body began believing that safety wasn't temporary.

The Validation I Never Expected

Recently I attended a progressive Shitsu therapy class with Emma,

It completely transformed how I viewed pain.

The evidence was clear.

Pain isn't simply about damaged tissue.

Our brain, nervous system, emotions, muscles and posture constantly communicate with each other.

Stress changes muscle tension.

Trauma changes breathing.

Fear changes movement.

Protective patterns become physical patterns.

For someone who has spent years feeling dismissed because scans looked "normal", this was incredibly validating.

Pain can absolutely be real without there being obvious structural damage.

Your nervous system matters.

Healing Isn't Always About Doing More

This was perhaps the hardest lesson of all.

My instinct was always to push harder.

Exercise more.

Meditate longer.

Research more.

Heal faster.

But what if the body doesn't need more effort?

What if it needs permission?

Permission to rest.

Permission to pause.

Permission to stop fighting every symptom.

The greatest shift in my healing began when I stopped viewing my body as the enemy.

Instead of waking each morning thinking,

"How do I get rid of this?"

I began asking,

"What is my body trying to tell me today?"

That simple change transformed everything.

The Legacy of Hormonal Contraception

This is where I want to be very clear.

I am sharing my own experience and the research that has shaped my understanding—not saying that every woman will have the same journey.

However, I do believe many women deserve more information about the long-term effects of hormonal contraception.

Research suggests that some forms of hormonal contraception can contribute to lower levels of nutrients including B vitamins, magnesium, zinc and selenium, all of which play important roles in energy production, nervous system function and overall wellbeing.

For some women, coming off hormonal contraception can also involve a period of hormonal readjustment as natural ovulation resumes.

Every body is different, and not everyone experiences ongoing symptoms.

But for those who do, the conversation deserves compassion rather than dismissal.

Most women say how moody they are on the pill, the weight gain and now Davina McCall shares what the PILL actually does to women and your health. I luckily was only on the pill for 10 years roughly, the rest was a coil with no medicine release, then using the no contraception and the app to show me when i was ovulating.

We Live in a Different World Now

Our bodies aren't only dealing with hormones.

They're also navigating:

  • Chronic stress

  • Poor sleep

  • Highly processed foods

  • Environmental pollutants

  • Plastics and endocrine-disrupting chemicals

  • Constant stimulation

  • Information overload

No wonder so many women feel exhausted before the day even begins.

Sometimes the body isn't broken.

It's overwhelmed.

My Message to You

If you wake every morning feeling anxious before you've even opened your eyes...

If your chest feels tight for no obvious reason...

If your body feels permanently braced for danger...

Please know this.

Your body isn't trying to punish you.

It's trying to protect you.

Healing isn't about forcing yourself through another workout.

It's not about becoming more productive.

Sometimes healing begins the moment we stop fighting ourselves.

Sometimes surrender is the bravest thing we can do.

Take time off, surrender, the universe will make space and work things out for you!

I had to go back to eating meat as 5 years without it completely damaged my body, i know listen to what it needs, I honour the animal an pray for it and do not eat it often, few times a month or beef liver capsules, honestly being close to death my body had no choice!

We are diving deep into the massive paradigm shift happening right now in women’s health. Watch YouTube or get in touch and i can guide you to some videos. I’m sharing the raw truth about what modern environments/foods are doing to our bodies/souls, and why we need to stop forcing ourselves through standard workouts or what others do, when our internal fuel tanks are completely empty. Listen to inner you!

This is only Part 1 of my Post-Pill Awakening journey.

In the next article, I'll be sharing more about nervous system regulation, iron deficiency, hormone recovery, trauma stored in the body, and the practical daily tools that have genuinely helped me reconnect with myself.

You don't have to do this alone.

And most importantly...

There is hope.
